Happy New Year!

Can you believe that third grade is half way over?! Encourage your 3rd grader to finish strong by:

ü  Giving their best effort

ü  Completing homework assignments neatly and correctly

ü  Practicing multiplication facts daily

ü  Checking spelling and punctuation when writing sentences

3rd Grade has the opportunity to participate in a mission project to Peru! No we won't be going...although we would love the opportunity to practice our Spanish! Instead we will be preparing special messages in Spanish and a video message including "Jesus Loves Me" in Spanish to send along. We will also send special pencils to use in a VBS that will be conducted there. We are so excited to get to share  about Jesus in Spanish!

Our 3rd quarter AR goal is set! (See note in today's papers.) Each student should pass at least 5 AR tests before the end of the quarter on March 14. This should include one biography and one chapter book. Books must be pre-approved by your student's teacher.

Please read over the Capitol Field Trip form in today’s papers. This is a great, educational trip for our students. We would love to have lots of chaperones to join us!

Don't forget to send in items for Backpack Ministries. 3rd grade items are pop tarts, cereal bars, and oatmeal or grits packets.

 MULTIPLICATION TIMED TEST EVERY TUESDAY!

Unit 6 explores the relationships of 2-D figures with line segments, rays and lines, as well as the geometric figures that can be made from them.  We are identifying polygons, triangles and quadrangles by counting sides and distinguishing angles.  Next week we will begin measuring angles.  Encourage your student to identify right, acute and obtuse angles at home.

We have begun a sweet story in reading called The Hundred Dresses.  It is a wonderful old story about the hurtfulness of making unfair judgments.  It reminds us all to follow the “golden rule” and to be kind and compassionate to everyone.

In Social Studies we have begun a fun unit on Native Americans in North America.  We will study the heritage, customs, shelters, etc. of 8 different tribes.

In Science we will begin investigating States of Matter - solids, liquids, and gases. So fun!
